PostSubject: Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Review   Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:17 am

This is my favorite of all the games Smile

The second game of the Fatal Frame series tells the story of twins Mio and Mayu. Mayu had an accident in the forest when she was a child and forever walks with a limp, leaving her dependent on Mio. When Mayu sees a crimson butterfly, she follows it, taking her and her twin deep into the forest. And what they come across to isn't a large mansion. But a whole village - the All Gods Village. This game also has something to do with a failed ritual, in this case, the Crimson Sacrifice, a ritual that involves twins. The older twin must strangle the younger so that they would be one. The strangled twin becomes a crimson butterfly and protects the village. His/her body is thrown into the Abyss, a deep pit that hungers for a sacrifice every ten years. If no twins are available, a substitute is used, called a Kusabi. The Kusabi is usually an outsider come to visit the village.

The camera makes a comeback in the game, and so are all the creepy elements of the first game. The ambience, music, and graphics are excellent, and the scare factor increased because the whole village is haunted, and you must go to three different houses to solve puzzles and retrieve items. Also, you will face not one, but two very strong ghosts - the Kusabi and the ghost of the twin who had failed the sacrifice. You play as Mio, and you must find Mayu, who seems to be drawn into the village. There are times you play as Mayu, but you cannot use the camera or any items. All you need to do is follow the crimson butterflies, no ghosts will fight you.

There are three endings to the game. Two good (if you can call the other one good -.-) and one bad (the canon ending). Like the previous game, you can complete your Spirit List to unlock costumes and other stuff for both Mio and Mayu. It also features new ghosts, and some of them come to attack you in groups. Definitely a thrill to play. And again, I dare you to play it with the lights off. 10/10

Interesting story and review. Sounds like the game is better than the second, I have yet to play it though. And again, if the game gets scary enough, that someone can hear you across the room and it sounds like you are having a heart attack. It's best to quit playing. Laughing

Well it's always fun to watch someone play any game that you're not particularly good at. Depends if you like the game though also. Video walk through though. Hmm, i'll have to look sometime
